In response
to claims from the tourism industry that traffic jams on
the I-70 leading west out of Denver were costing the ski
industry as much as $800,000 per hour, the Colorado Department
of Transportation (CDOT) looked for a solution. The answer
came in the form of ATA and Dillon's Towing & Recovery
who now maintains 3 heavy wreckers on the I-70 between Denver
and Vail. The wreckers are stationed at trouble locations
during heavy commute times and in stormy conditions to quickly
clear disabled trucks from the roadway. When a truck blocks
lanes in the corridor, Dillon's Towing & Recovery is
quickly dispatched to the scene and moves the equipment
to a safe haven where other towers in the area take over.
In the first two months of operations, Dillon's has cleared
over 50 disabled commercial vehicles from lanes - averaging
under 30 minutes to do so! By all accounts the Dillon's/ATA
team is meeting 100% of the objectives that were laid out
in the CDOT pilot program.
ATA
